OSA Assessor Certification Program

Re-training of Assessors in 2008

In 2008 all current assessors must attend a recertification course as the CSA has changed the format of assessing and the assessment form. The new form is being implemented across the country which will standardize the way assessments are done across Canada.

The OSA is hosting the initial recertification course on January 26th in Toronto. At the moment there is only one person qualified in Ontario to re-certify assessors. The outcome of this course is to recertify 30 or so National and Provincial assessors as well as have a few of these assessors become trainers to train other assessors in the province. The rest of the assessors in Ontario by now would have been invited to attend a re-certification course as well except in the area where the dates of the course have not been confirmed (see list of courses below). Attendance at one of these courses is mandatory. If an assessor does not attend this recertification course or does not do their assessments to get evaluated after attending the recertification course, that assessor will be removed from the assessor list and lose their status as an OSA Assessor.

Completing the Recertification Process

Upon the completion of the recertification course every assessor must have a minimum of 2 assessments (done in the 2008 season) evaluated by the Referee Development Committee. Upon the evaluation of these assessments, the Referee Development Committee will classify every assessor. Once the classification of all assessors is completed, a list of all assessors will go to the CSA. After this list is sent to the CSA each assessor will be notified as to their classification as an assessor. Attending the re-certification course does not confirm ones spot on the assessor list, the assessor to be fully certified must attend the course and complete a minimum of two assessments to be evaluated in 2008 to be recertified and put on the OSA assessor list.

New Assessors

To become a new assessor one must attend the Basic Assessor Course and provide, for evaluation to the OSA two (2) assessments. Upon evaluation of these assessments, the Referee Development Committee will grant the assessor their District Level Assessor classification. In order for these assessors to upgrade they must complete the requirements listed above.

In 2008 the OSA is focusing on recerifying all the current assessors. New assessor courses will not take place until 2009.
