| SANTIAGO, CHILE, Saturday, March 10, 2007 -- In a 3-way U20 Tournament with Argentina and Chile, Ontario’s U16 Girls ended up with a very respectable second place finish. Ontario prevailed over Argentina in penalty shots after the first 45-minute game ended in a 1-1 tie. Caroline Szwed scored to tie the game for Ontario midway through the half and Justine Bernier became the hero of the game by stopping 2 of 6 penalty shots. In the second 45-minute game, Ontario contained a very offence-minded Chilean squad which needed to score to win the tournament. Ontario created 4 great scoring opportunities in the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard. In the ensuing penalty kick shoot-out, Ontario missed their 6th shot while Chile scored all 6 to win 1-0. “I am very proud of our young team’s performance against 2 very technical and well organized U20 National Teams,” said Coach Bryan Rosenfeld after the tournament. “We created good scoring chances and were disciplined in our defending. At times we were very efficient in our possession, but this still needs improvement in our game. We look forward to playing these teams again in the week ahead.” Tournament Round Results Argentina 2-0 Chile Ontario 2-1 Argentina on penalty kicks Chile 1-0 Ontario on penalty kicks Tournament Standings 1.
