Long-Term Player Development Presentation -- September 20th
VAUGHAN, ON -- The Ontario Soccer Association cordially invites parents, coaches and club administrators to a presentation by Richard Way, Coaching Association of Canada Chair, LTAD Committee, on the topic of Long-Term Athlete Development and the implications for soccer coaching and player development in Ontario and Canada.

LTAD is a multi-sport concept --
Canadian Sport for Life -- from which a soccer-specific Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model is being developed -- Wellness to World Cup.

As it is implemented, LTPD will have a broad influence on soccer across Canada. It will positively impact Coaching Education Programs at all levels of our game and unite Coaching Educators nation-wide.

September 20, 2008
9:00 am to 10:30 am

Richard Way will provide an introduction to the emerging Canadian model of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) -- a new approach to the design of skill development, training, competition, and recovery programs that is based on the developmental age of participants rather than their chronological age.

The Canadian LTAD consists of seven stages of development, beginning with the Active Start and progressing to the Training to Win and Active for Life stages. In addition to outlining the key principles of LTAD and describing the content of the seven stages, Richard will provide an overview of the process and timelines to design the soccer-specific LTPD model. He will also provide information on the background and rationale for the sport of soccer adopting this approach and will identify the anticipated benefits and impacts of LTAD on the sport delivery system, nationally, provincially, and locally.

Richard is one of the six-member team working with the Federal Provincial Territorial Ministers and Sport Canada on LTAD. He is also the Project Manager for LTAD. Richard worked with the CSA LTPD Work Group in developing Wellness to World Cup as well as the FA Women’s LTPD. He has an extensive knowledge of player development pathways in multiple sports in many nations and provinces.
