SURREY, BC, Monday, October 9, 2006 – Ottawa St. Anthony’s met Alberta’s Calgary Callies with the goal of taking home the gold, and the game wasn't a disappointment to the many fans who came to watch two highly-skilled and evenly-matched teams show their stuff in 90 minutes of great soccer.

The game became somewhat aggressive in the early minutes of the match, but the control shown by the referee -- along with a few yellow cards -- soon set the tone, and the teams settled down and played their game.

The action see-sawed back-and-forth between the ends, but the teams were so evenly matched that the score stood nil/nil at the end of the half.

Moments into the second half, Ottawa had their first significant scoring opportunity when #8 Loui Legakis made a perfect pass to #6 Simon Bonk. The Alberta goalkeeper was out of position, but Bonk's header towards the far post was stopped by a lone Calgary defender.

Less than 25 minutes later, #8 Loui Legakis popped one over to teammate #19 Urbain Some who drilled it into the net to put Ontario on the scoreboard.

The game continued from end to end at a fast pace and it was touch-and-go throughout the remaining time as Alberta pressed hard for the tying goal with Ottawa St.Anthony's just as determined to increase their lead.

At the final whistle, Ottawa St.Anthony's was able to hold onto their margin and collect their prize - the gold medal.

It was a long and arduous campaign for the team, but they achieved their goal and marked a significant win for Ontario in that it has been a long time since Ontario brought home gold in two consecutive Men’s Challenge Cups.

NS -- Nova Scotia M-I

SURREY, BC, Saturday, October 8, 2006 -- The weather hampered the determined attitude of neither the Ontario nor Nova Scotia team this morning. With an overnight rain and steady drizzle in the early morning, the teams were quite pleased to be playing their Semi-final match on turf.

The game started off with Ottawa St. Anthony’s showing its skill and determination to place Ontario on the scoreboard.

Four minutes into the game, on a great pass by #11 Souleymane Gagou to teammate #9 Abraham Osman, Ontario had its first chance to score. Unfortunately, the shot went wide of the net.

The next attacking wave came within 2 minutes and, again, #11 Souleymane Gagou drove a shot just over the net.

But perseverance paid off at the 8-minute mark when a pass that started with #11 Souleymane Gagou to #12 Edgar Soglo found the foot of #9 Abraham Osman who drilled home to put Ontario on the scoreboard.

In the face of this setback, team NS pressed their attack, forcing Ottawa St. Anthony's keeper, Angus Wong, together with his back field, to work diligently keeping NS off the scoreboard to halftime.

The second half started off similarly – back and forth, up and down the field -- until #9 Abraham Osman had a breakaway chance, only to have the ball glance off the post.

NS were relentless in their attack and, several times, Ottawa St. Anthony's got tangled up in their own goal area. But Ontario’s defense, along with the skillful hands of keeper Angus Wong, kept NS at bay.

At the 80-minute mark, St. Anthony's #11 Souleymane Gagou put the final goal in net for Ontario from a nice pass by #15 Daniel Jowes.

Ottawa St. Anthony's will now head into the Gold Medal game Monday.

SURREY, BC, SURREY, BC, Thursday, October 6, 2006 -- Although Ottawa St. Anthony's have secured the first place berth to the next round, they came to the field to play.

Their opponent, BC Sapperton Rovers, came off the first pass with the aim of securing a win.

The play became more and more aggressive as the match progressed -- until the referee issued some yellow cards which appeared to convey the right message, and both teams settled down.

Scott Milliquet was in goal for Ottawa St. Anthony's and, with the help of his teammates, he took charge in net and made some great saves throughout the 90 minutes of play.

Ontario had several scoring opportunities but weren't successful in placing the ball in the back of the net.

The defenders were key in keeping BC off the score board.

This was a hard-fought game, but Ottawa St.Anthony's was the team to beat.

SURREY, BC, Wednesday, October 4, 2006 -- SURREY, BC, Thursday, October 5, 2006 -- Ottawa St. Anthony's provided the spectators with some great soccer in 90 minutes of play.

Once again, goaltender Angus Wong along with his back field was able to keep Manitoba Lucania's advances at bay and for 90 minutes kept Manitoba off the scoreboard.

#9 Abraham Osman came off the mark in the 1st minute of play with a great lob shot with the Manitoba keeper out of net, but the shot went wide by a hair.

The game started to become aggressive, resulting in both sides playing one man down for the remaining time.

Abraham Osman took advantage of a pass from teammate #3 Kwame Telemaque and popped one into the net at the 15-minute mark, putting Ontario on the scoreboard.

Although Manitoba kept pressing, once again, Abraham Osman connected to put Ontario up 2-0 at the last minute of play in the first half.

Both sides came into the second half determined to score, but Agnus Wong took control of the field for Ontario and teammate #19 Urbain Some scored from a pass initiated by a play from #12 Edgar Soglo to Osman to Some, who drove it home at the 64th minute of play.

Kwame Telemaque then made a great pass to #10 Johnny Schieda who tipped it over to Some who marked the final goal of the match.

SURREY, BC, Wednesday, October 4, 2006 -- Ottawa St. Anthony’s came to the field primed to play.

With keeper Angus Wong in net, the team came out hard and fast in the opening minutes of the game and took charge on offense. Several near misses thwarted their attacks, but #9 Abraham Osman managed to find the back of the net on one foray to put Ontario on the scoreboard.

Angus Wong, with the support of his back field, effectively dampened the Vancouver Firefighters (2) offense to keep the 1-0 score in Ontario’s favour at half time.

The second half got off to a great start when #11 Souleymane Gagou put another into the net to bring Ontario’s lead to 2-0, however, BC countered with a quick goal to bring them back into contention.

St. Anthony’s stayed on their game plan and #9 Abraham Osman ‘s shot found the back of the net a second time in the 60th minute of play, but once again, BC were able to quickly counter and scored at the 61-minute mark to keep them in the game.

A succession of back-and-forth attacks saw Ontario’s #11 Souleymane Gagou score his second goal at the 62nd minute of play and a hattrick at the 75-minute mark.

Hard work and superb team effort by all the players made for an exciting match with the final score 5-3 for Ontario.
